Ulla-May Nevsten

I grew up in the hinterland of Västerbotten in Sweden but I have been living by the ocean in Skåne for a long time now. Everything that favours people’s health and well being interests me and I have mediated that in my job as an physiotherapist. The mystery of life fascinates me and to read books that opens up my mind and gives me instincts is one beloved hobby of mine. To be creative in different ways is very enrichment to me.

My book “För dig – for you” is my tribute to our beautiful nature and its healing powers. I want to remind everyone of our own strength and beauty within us.

My background

I grew up in the hinterland of Västerbotten in Sweden. I have been living by the ocean in Skåne for a long time now. Everything that favours people’s health and well being interests me and I have mediated that in my job as a physiotherapist. The mystery of life fascinates me and to read books that opens up my mind and have given me insights is one beloved hobby of mine. To be creative in different ways is enriching me.

My book “För dig – for you” is my homage to our beautiful nature and its healing powers. I want to remind everyone of our own strength and beauty within us.

My parents were Christians and they taught me about the meaning of the pray and forgiveness.

I moved away from home early to study and I remember a moment of clarity about being a physiotherapist. I have always felt that I have been guided. Lund, 1500 km from home is where I studied and the profession have been my passion in 40 years. I have tried different areas of my profession with further education and had many interesting meetings and heard a lot of patient’s life stories. My greatest interest have always been healing and literature about personal development with a spiritual focus, “The book of Knowledge” and “A course in miracles” the most extensive.

I have never planned to publish a book. My creativity consists of designing and sewing clothes, which brings me great joy. During my education I met my husband and since 20 years we live in Falsterbo. We have two children and three grandchildren. The nature here is so beautiful and peaceful. The most beautiful walk around here is called “The lovepath” and so I can feel.

I feel such gratitude to this beautiful surrounding with the ocean in two directions – both south and west.

I got a camera from my children when I turned 50 years old. The winter pictures, that reminded me of where I came from, I made into Christmas cards. I enlarged some of the pictures and put them up on my walls in my clinic. Several of the patients experienced the calming feeling the pictures conveyed.

The book process

At one occasion I met Yvonne Frank-Månsson– the owner of Siljans Gulls Publishing House – and I showed her a couple of photos with text that I had written and asked her if it was something worth continuing to do. I noticed that they touched her and she encouraged me to continue my work.

I wish that the photos and the text in my book is going to affect and remind people how beautiful we are inside of us. Maybe the book can inspire to create, to discover the small things that can be so big in our nature – and also to see how great we are.

I had several photos of winter but I started to take photos of every season. The nature is curative. It nurtures us and I wanted to homage Mother Nature and all her beauty. To every photo I wrote a short, simple and loving text to the nature and to you. It became 82 photos of the changing seasons, mostly from Skanör-Falsterbo. My intension with the book is for you to extract power, to only be, to accept and beware of the belonging with our earth. The book can be put somewhere in the house, easy to pick up and be used to get encouragement. Open up a page, breath calmly and use the text and photos together as a meditation. If you are old and sick and cannot be outside in the nature you can use the book and the photos to remind you of the strength inside of you.

In the little community where I grew up there was a playground with a beautiful flowerbed. I remembered my feeling and thought, that I wished for the whole world to see those flowers. I had the same feeling when I created my book. I wished for the whole world to be aware of all of the beautiful things that exists close to us – a flower, a butterfly or a view. The beautiful view where we live has given me perceptions and the ocean with its beautiful beaches has given many wonderful experiences.

I saw a TV-show where a group of Chinese people visited Austria. They thought that the houses were so beautiful, just like paradise, that they went home to China and built a village with houses exactly like the once they had seen. I thought that our untouched nature is more alike paradise and felt a wish to spread the book to other countries. I decided to do the book in both Swedish and English with the title “För dig – for you”.

I have got many mails of appreciation of people that buy the book. One man wrote that he thought the book would lay in every waiting room. Then the doctors would not have to hand out antidepressant pills. He felt how he became calm when he read the text and looked at the photos. A lot of people have also said that they have started to look at the nature in a different way then before. They experience a greater “mindfulness”.

Financing the book

My parents moved to Kallhäll outside of Stockholm in the beginning of 1970. My father was often out in the forest and found branches, roots and other things he started to make pieces of art of. He had his first exhibition when he was 80 years old. I came to inherit a small sum from my parents and it felt good to be able to finance the book with that money. I know they would like the book and the texts. They taught me a lot about faith and trust. My father used to listen when someone needed encouragement. He could for an example buy flowers to people he knew and did not knew or give a donation to those who needed it. He was a role model of generosity.

What we do for our sisters and brothers we do for ourselves, we all are one.

Continuing

A couple of months ago I started to write music to five of the texts and I have recorded them. It is great when everyone can participate and together sing the simple melodies together with the simple words when I present the book. Comments about “För dig – for you”:

This is a book that gives us stressed people calm and harmony and a great feeling with wonderful photos from the changing nature during the year. It is also filled with warm loving texts to every photo. You can just relax and enjoy every page!

Thank you for your wonderful book “För dig – for you”. I enjoy your beautiful photos of the nature and the texts are worth considering in a combination with the photos. It reminds us about the natural harmony that exists in the nice and wonderful outside. Together with inspiring texts I find this harmony inside me. A book to introduce whenever and be inspired of.

Wonderful, lovely Ulla-May!
